In India, tobacco use is responsible for nearly 50 per cent of cancer cases, including lung, head and neck cancer, making it the leading cause of cancer-related death.
CMD of Nemcare Hospital Dr. Hitesh Baruah Said the importance of awareness towards a tobacco free world. To start with, he explained , we, the people ourselves quite the use of tobacco in any form, and should discuss with other near and dear one about tobacco devastation. The Medical Director Dr. P. K. Baruah explained the WHO’s 2023’s theme for World No Tobacco Day which is - "We need food, not tobacco”. It is aimed at raising awareness about alternative crop production and marketing opportunities for tobacco farmers and encourage them to grow sustainable, nutritious crops. further he added the Nemcare Super speciality Hospital is committed to providing the best care, including oncology. Director, Dr. M K Baruah explained self-awareness to ensure better health and longevity for humankind by avoiding tobacco products.
This year Nemcare Hospital’s Dental Department had organized Poster and Instragram reel making competition for No Tobacoo awareness. On the event day today, the IDA, Assam President Prof(Dr.)Nabanita Baruah , Head, Department of Dentistry, Regional Dental College, Guwahati announced the winners of the competitions and distributed the prizes. Later the programme was enriched with Open stage Drama and No Tobacco Theme activities.

The Students of Regional Dental College Guwahati and representatives from the Indian Dental Association (IDA), Assam also participated in the event. The main objective of this event was to creating awareness among the people about the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use on people. Tobacco use is not only harmful to people's health, but it also harms the family putting them in emotional, physical and financial distress. Before taking one puff of tobacco, think thrice!

On the occasion of World Orthodontic Health Day, Department of Dentistry, Nemcare Hospitals have organized an awareness session among hospital staff and walking patients and attendants.
All of it, making this year’s World Orthodontic Health Day truly a memorable one. Planning and execution of the entire event was done by Dr. Nabanita Baruah, MDS, Consultant Orthodontist, Nemcare Hospitals and Professor & HoD in Department of Orthodontic, Regional Dental College, Guwahati. The Dentistry Department thanks the Nemcare Hospitals Managing Director Dr. Hitesh Baruah, Medical Director Dr. Pradip Kumar Baruah, Director Dr. Mihir Kumar Baruah and other dignitaries for their support and motivation towards the event.

The live workshop held in all three days covering almost all the laparoscopic procedures in NHPL.Stalwarts in the field of laparoscopy from all over India and abroad had demonstrate advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery and exchange their knowledge with the delegates. The academic exercise had enlighten all of us especially the young surgeons and post graduate students.

Launching the of the programme a week back, Dr Kishor Kumar Barman, Covid Vaccine Site Manager, Nemcare Hospitals, said "Long awaited time for Vaccine is now over. The 28 year old patient Mr. Lakhyajit Saikia who hails from Nagaon was diagnosed with Marfan’s Syndrome. It is a rare genetic disorder of the connective tissue and can cause problems in the eyes, joints and heart. Involvement of the heart is the most serious complication which over time can cause the aortic dilatation and finally rupture which is fatal. The heart valve may become floppy and leaky leading to various symptoms. Having breathlessness for last few years Mr. Saikia consulted at various Cardiac centres in NE region and Bengaluru where the high post operative complications and mortality rates upto 80-90% were explained to the family. The cost of the surgery was unaffordable to the family which was said to be between 8-10 lakhs of rupees.
They then came back to Guwahati and consulted Dr. Apurba Kumar Sarma who heads the Nemcare Heart Institute, Guwahati. Dr. Sarma decided to operate upon the patient after proper evaluation and adequate preparation for operation. “BENTALL DE BONO” surgery was performed on 16/11/2018 which involves composite graft replacement of the aortic valve, aortic root and ascending aorta with re-implantation of the coronary arteries into the graft. The post operative course was uneventful, the patient has been relieved of his cardiac symptoms and is ready for discharge from the hospital.
It is an encouraging news for the cardiac patients of the region who require complicated surgeries. World class cardiac surgery facilities and skilled manpower are available in the state and is ready to provide service to people of the region at an affordable cost.
